Former University of Montana team captain (1907) Will Harriman organized a town team for Livingston of the 160-pound weight variety and challenged the state, singling out the Butte Columbias for independent champion status.  With the challenge made on Nov 30, no game was set up for the 1908 season.

After a last-minute victory over Bozeman on Oct 17, the return trip to Bozemen never came off as lack of players or weather caused repeated postponements.

Russell King would resurface with the Helena Independents in 1911.
