Practices for the Doom began in a cow pasture near St. Paul in October of 1999.  Head Coach Darren Jungwirth, a 1981 all-star selection from St. Paul, Oregon reported to have briefly signed as a fullback for the Los Angeles Rams during the 1987 strike invested $25,000 to start the Doom.

DT - Jeff Schilling, DE - Randall Erving, C - Rod Wilson were originally expected to play with the Doom, but were signed to play indoor ball with the Portland Prowlers instead.  Wilson and Schilling were former All-Northwest Football League players with the Oregon Thunderbolts on that 1999 team.

Ivan McCrae returned two kickoffs for TD's in the Oregon Football League season opening loss to Rogue.  Safety Kenny Land was credited with 13 tackles.  Salem would win their first game in the home opener with the Douglas Outlaws on April 22nd.  McCrae would go on to be the Northwest Football League Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 with the Oregon Thunderbolts after starring at Western Oregon University from 2002-2003 at the age of 27.

On Apr 29, 2000 the Statesman Journal newspaper reported that the Doom had been expelled from the OFL for among the list of problems, failure to pay the remaining $500 of the $750 league entrance fee.  That same day, the Doom were to play Grants Pass, but due to the ruling, the Marauders opted to accept the forfeit and Salem held an intrasquad scrimmage.  The new ownership (John Washington) asked Larry Matthews of Stockton to buy in as minor owners with the agreement that Jungwirth would have no future association with the Doom organization.   By June, lawsuits had been filed and battles ensued over the financial dealings.  Jungswirth would try to field another team, the Yamhill County Enforcers, an independent squad in 2001 that would go on to find success in the National Nineman league.  He helped coach the Oregon Panthers in their final season of 2004.

The May 6th game with Multnomah was cancelled due to the Chemawa field being unavailable.  The Doom would host the Columbia Cougars on May 20th in the final game for Salem a 35-26 loss.

Offensive Lineman Matt Matthews (6'9" 370lbs) would leave the team during the turmoil and return to play with the Oregon Thunderbolts where he spent the 1999 season as 1st Team All-NWFL and later, the Puget Sound Jets in 2001 winning the AFA National Championship with them in 2002.  Remaining players would join him with the 'Bolts or the other Portland-area teams for the remainder of 2000.
